Hey guys,
I'm looking for the vehicle alignment tools for my '05 RK classic and the belt tension tool.
Any idea where they can be purchased without getting raked over the coals?
What alignment tools are you talking about? On the new dressers, the rear wheel is self aligning. There is nothing to align on the front that I am aware of.
If you are talking about aligning the front with the rear, then a straight edge long enough to reach from the front tire to the rear tire and a ruler is all that is needed as far as I know.
As far as the belt tension tool, I got mine from HD for about 35.00. I also wrote an article in the DIY section showing how to use the tool. This includes pictures.
DON'T BUY THE HD 40006-85!!!! It is to big to fit inside the belt guard.
The jerk at Bakersfield HD says it is the only one they sell. The one the manual calls for HD 35381 A, they don't sell. When I pressed him to order me one, he said he only ordered for specific people. I hung up the phone. End of story .
I had mine before the change for use on EVO bikes with the wider belts. When I got the new EG I just took the yoke off the the tool by removing the screw that holds it, and made a different yoke that would fit. I made it out of a piece of strap steel.
I checked at the Harley shop, and they offered to sell me a yoke for my old tool for 12.95. Hell, the whole tool doesn't cost much more than that. they also told me they would sell me the new model tool for I think 34.95.
If you haven't got one and are still having problems getting your dealer to get you one, let me know. I can get it here no problem.
I bought the 40006-81 for 20 bucks. I called to see what was up because it didn't fit the belt properly. I didn't ask if they would take it back. I may just make the adapter to fit. The kid irritated me with his lack of interest in solving my problem.[:@]
I'm looking for the tools that align the rear swing arm in the frame. The HD part # is HD-46247. The Dealer wants $225.00.
Thats a little too much to spend on a hunch. My bike is the one that pulls to the left when the bars are let go of. None of the shops I brought it to have ever checked the alignment with the correct tools!
I'm kinda shootin in the dark here but I figure I'll check all the possibilities myself since the Dealers and Harley Davidson wont do it.
I'll have to look in my service manual and see what it even looks like. This is work I have never done so I can't be of much help.
Since it a tool that is specific for HD swingarms, it is probably going to be a HD only item. Do you have an independent shop that might be able to help you out.
You might also ask TCSTD. He is the resident HD Guru.
