If I make this deal it would be my first Harley, so, I don't wanna buy crap.
I will definatly take an expert with me to inspect the bike and if he or I have the slidest feeling that there is something seriously wrong, I wont get it.
Thanks for your information so far.

I'd be prudent to do your due diligence on this. I don't think H-D would put a wrong VIN on a bike. Lot's of implications on this one. Possibly salvage. Possibly a complete rebuild. Or possibly stolen?

*** = digits 5,6 and 7, and on a 2002 injected Fatboy, would be "B X B".
On an injected Heritage, they would be "B W B".
The last six of the vin should also match the last six stamped into the left engine case, just above the primary.

It looks like a Fatboy, but the VIN will confirm it.

Get a picture of the vin on the frame and ask for a full vin from the title. It's either a salvaged or stolen if he's not giving out the full vin. Especially since you can't even research to see if it's been totaled or not. Something is VERY fishy here.

I got the full VIN from the title, he said he is on a business trip in the moment and can't give me VIN from the bike directly.
He backed out of the deal, saying his bike whould be more worth then mine and is still saying its a factory Fatboy, while the VIN still stated its a Heritage Softale Classic.....
Nevermind......probably a good thing not to trade motor cycles with someone who has no clue about there own bike

Looks like I am not getting my first HD

Have the seller take a "clear" picture of the VIN stamped on the steering neck and send it to you.

Never mind.....I suspect he was about to be outed !

With all the mods folks do the their bikes, why couldn't it have heritage bones with fatboy trim? I have very few original stock parts on my bike. I know guys that remove turn signals from the bike cuz they're not cool, gotta have the right look you know.

I'm not sure I'd be overly suspicious if the numbers match. Definitely deserves more research but if it runs and drives fine, go for it.
