I’m looking to buy a pre-owned Touring bike (likely a SG or Electra Glide) with low mileage. I’ve done some research and I see where a newer frame came out in ‘09. My Q is, to a rider who is getting back on a bike after a few years being idle, does the newer frame really make a difference between say an ‘08 EGUltra and a ‘09 or ‘10 model year? Is there that much of a difference to buy a ‘09 over an ‘08?

Well, if you buy an 08 and never ride an 09, everything's cool.

After riding both bikes / years, the difference (if any) would be a matter of personal perception and a fact, most certainly not. I.E. what I think the difference is would not be the same as what you think the difference is...

So, if you want the answer, you know what you gotta do

I read somewhere that the new frame suspension has more than 100 fewer parts than the old style? Hey peepz, is that right?

There are thousands of people, who have put millions of miles, on the '08 & older frames with few issues..... The vast majority of them, were quite satisfied and enjoyed their bikes...

Almost every year, some changes are made. Some are big, others are little. Some are subtle, and some are immediately noticeable. Some affect ride quality, and maybe even safety. Some are just cosmetic and/or convenience..... A good rule of thumb is to always buy the newest bike within your budget.... That way you will get all the advances your budget will allow...

Sooner than you think, even the newest bike, will be yesterday's news. Get a bike you can afford, research the quirks/issues of that year so you can buy intelligently (check if they have been dealt with) and to be prepared for year specific repairs (like spring tensioners, bad compensators, etc), then enjoy the ride...!!!

Just traded my '09 Electra Glide Ultra in on an '18 Road Glide Ultra..
In '09 they put on a wider rear tire, 6 gal tank, 6 speed transmission, larger font tire, routed the right side exhaust under the frame, I'm sure there are other things but those are the most notable. IMO,... I'd go with an '09 and up..

Default Great advice

Great advice y’all! And thank you very much. I appreciate words from folks who have this experience and are willing to share. So what would I primarily want to be prepared to repair or replace if I buy a 10 year old, and from appearance, a well taken care of bike? Belts, tires, fluidsfilters changed out, etc? I want to be prepared just as I would with buying a ore owned vehicle.

what is your price range. I see no problem with any of them if they have been maintained. good luck.

True enough BUT the availability of accessories on the older units become a bit more scarce as each day goes by ... As one whose had more than a few. if I had a chance at one that was a pre 2009 or a 2009 and later I'd be buying the 2009 or later ... Good Luck on your search

Again thanks for the insight. I needed to know this information. I’m really trying to stay below $10k if at all possible.
Not sure how “new” it is but this RumbleOn website...has anyone had any experience with it or know anyone that has?

I believe the 6spd came in 2007 along with the 96 ci with it's hydraulic cam chain tensioners and the 6 gal tank came in 2008. They also dropped the gearing in 2009 which made 6th gear more usable.
As others said, I would buy the newest bike I could afford.
