You can't use Rain-X on plastic shields due to hazing. You will probably have to replace the shield. You might want to consider the F4 windshield http://www.f4customs.com/index.php?o...e&Itemid=1 as they make an excellent product for HD's...and you never have to worry about scratching it or screwing it up with harsh chemicals. You can even use Rain-X on it if you think it necessary, but their surface is so slippery that you may find it not to be necessary. JMHO..your mileage may vary.
interesting as RainX was developed for use on plastic airplane windshields due to lack of wipers. i have used it for years on my bikes and never had discoloration. Likely the H-D version is RainX.
FWIW, Clearview approves the use of Rain-X (original clear formula) on their plastic windshields. I use Novus 1 to clean mine after soaking and cleaning with a wet towel, but haven't tried Rain-X yet. Seems it would be practical, as rain beads and remains on MC windshields imparing visibility, but if you used it along with plastic polish I assume you'd have to re-apply it every time you use the polish.

I first learned about Rain-X on the flight line and them aircraft all had plexiglass windshields.
Maybe there is some chemical difference or coating in the HD Lexan and the Cessna plexiglass.
Sure was bummed when my HD owner's manual said not to use it.
Thanks to all who gave me helpful info. As I could use some Novus 1 & 2, I'll run over to J&P in Daytona this week end. I can use the polish anyway and it will be a good experiment. I'm sure it will take a lot of elbow grease.
I'll let you know the outcome. I intended to replace the windshield with a really good one and don't want to spend that kind of money just yet.
If it cleans up good enough, I'll cut it down to 8" and use it for awhile. The haze is not so bad if I'm not looking through it. In fact I'm driving it now. I use it to get to work. We wanted the Harley so bad, I gave up my car to get it.
You are likely SOL if you used it on a stock windshield. If you buy a Clearview windshield, you can use rainx without any problems. You will also love the Clearview but it takes about 8 weeks to get one.
Nothing like having all your buds kick you when you are down...try calling Classic Motoring Accessories,LTD @ 1-800-628-7596 0r E-mail em at Classic1@tampabay.rr.com.They have some products that may help. I purchased some stuff that cleared up clouded plastic windows for my boat and also a product called PLEXUS in a spray can for routine cleaning and polishing that I used on the Boat windows and my Road King windshield that works much like rainex but is safe to use. Their products may let you salvage you windshield.....good luck.
