I have a 2008 Street Glide with about 28,000 miles in. About 2 years ago, I swapped out my front headlamp and passing lamps with Headwinds LED lights. Everything worked fine up until a few weeks ago when I noticed my headlamp burned out. I found this to be odd since I've only put about 2000 miles on the bike in the past 2 years, which makes this all the more frustrating.
Headwinds in Monrovia, CA rocks when it comes to customer service. Although the bulb was out of warranty, they gave me a very good price on a replacement bulb. When I got home, I installed the new bulb and noticed it would not illuminate. Then I noticed it turns on about 30 - 60 seconds after I turned the ignition on. Finding this to be odd, I called headwinds and they agreed it shouldn't do that. They tested the bulb with their power source and it lit right up.
Installed the second bulb and it does the same thing. It illuminates but after about 45 seconds. This time I went to the back of the bike and noticed the rear tail lamp was not on but the rear running lights were on. I noticed the rear tail lamp was flickering a bit and as soon as the headlamp illuminated, so did the tail lamp.
Mark, what you describes suggests something else may be interfering with your light. Have you made any mods in recent times, such as handlebars, or disturbed your handlebar switches? There may be a silly electrical fault, such as a poor connector or bad ground.
