The plate has the bolts pressed into it and the bolts go through the bottom of the Tour Pak. The rack has the holes.
Thanks for your reply. So as I understand it, no drilling is required. I am always nervous when drilling into things, if there is any way for something to be crooked upon completion due to wrong measuring I would be the one to accomplish that.

Rick
No drilling unless you want something on it other then the back rest. I think I drilled like 13 different holes in mine.
Been using an ebay TP for over three years 2up and 1up. Have both solo and 2up detach racks and switch between racks in only 10 minutes. I would definitely buy it again.
Hands down H-D tour pak is a way better quality, I was in the market for a TP last year so I bought a good known aftermarket TP and I purchased a H-D tour pak had them side by side and sent the aftermarket one back. As others said Aftermarket thin and flimsy....sometimes you get what you pay for!!!

The OEM bottom plate is very sturdy and heavy duty. Nice piece. I think this helps with the ridgity of the pak. I don't know if you can buy the oem base plate, it is not listed in my 2002 parts manual.
For you guys that have bought the after market tour paks, can you name the companies of the ones you feel are good? Whole lot of them out there. Looking for a chopped myself. Pictures?
Agreed with the numerous companies out there. One thing that confused me especially on ebay is there are two listings with the same components and what really looks like the exact same pictures to me with a price difference of $100 or more.

Yup, they do that. Same company, different names. Same with knock off detachable mounts/racks, usually in the SF Bay area. I just took one off and used an older HD detachable rack, rock solid now.

Dont know the name. ebay sells Rushmore style now. Rattle canned red reflectors black. Added CD led strips and wired to r/t/b module. 3 years of use and its still working great "for us". 1 and 2up.
When lid is open, it does feel a bit flimsy. When closed, the tp feels secure. Its not hd, nor was the $125 price.
