Default Is There A Way ... ?

... to determine which fuel injection system is on your bike? I have a 2001 Road King which was registered in December 2001 so I'm wondering whether I have a Magneti Marelli system or the newer Delphi system. Is there a surefire way of telling?

There are a couple of active threads on this very forum in the General section which would suggest that you have a MM. Time for you to invest in a factory service manual.

Wink

Registration date doesn't mean anything old chap, date of manufacture is what you need, to confirm model year. That may be on a label on the front of your frame in the vicinity of the steering head. If your bike was made in August or later it is actually a 2002 model year, which AFAIK will make it the later Delphi. Which further confirms Veekness's wisdom, that you should be consulting your FSM! You could also check a parts website, which may help.

Quick and easy way is pull off your a/c cover and look at the intake throat. Delphi's are round shaped and MM's are rectangular-ish. Here's a pic of the MM.

Delphi has a single throat, MM has two

Looks like an MM from the exploded parts diagram.

If I'm not mistaken, the MM fuel injection had 2 fuel lines connected to the fuel tank (feed & return). The Delphi system used in 2002 models only had one fuel line from the tank.

Bingo - even easier! Having adapted such a tank to carb I should have remembered that.
