I've seen a lot of "gas mileage" numbers posted on the various engines but nothing that really compared them under identical conditions so I thought I would do a little test on our ride today. I ride a 2010 CVO Street Glide (110", stage 1, dyno tuned, 45K miles). My son's friend rides a 2017 RG (107 stage 4 which becomes 114, dyno tuned, 9K miles) and my son rides a new to him 2017 RK (107, stage 1, FP3 autotune, 4K miles). We all filled up before our ride, rode 210 miles of non freeway driving up to Washington Pass and back, sea level to 4K feet. The 107 got 47.1 MPG, the 114 got 44.9 MPG and the 110 got 44.4 MPG. I was expecting the M8's to get quite a bit better mileage than my well worn 110 but there wasn't as big a difference as I expected. I know gas mileage isn't why we ride our Harleys, I just find little comparisons like this interesting. Yeah, I know. I need to get out more LOL.
My all stock 2014 Ultra Limited wih the 103HO engine consistently gets in the mid-40's as well. Looking at your data more closely, another way to say it, the two bikes with the latest HD big-twin engine design got the best milage. Ok, probably what we would expect.
I check MPG virtually every single tank of gas. Both current bikes get 41 to 49 depending on how they are ridden. Interesting comparison but about what I would expect.
Im using the harley synthetic 20w 50. But switching to the Spector 25w 60. Too much ticking, apparently that oil will quiet the motor. So Im going to give it a try.
