Lowering your bike by modifying the suspension will reduce ground clearance and quite probably comfort as well. If you want to improve your footing while stationary, consider modifying your seat which can improve your leg reach, also consider riding boots with thicker soles and heels. A little extra leg length can make quite a worthwhile difference and grippy soles can improve confidence!

I lowered my FLHTK 1 inch with Progressive shocks and monotubes. I couldn't be happier with the results. A bit pricey but worth it in my opinion.

Did my 2002 FLHTC with 13" shocks (stock length) and a 1" lowering block. Ride was fine. Obviously you are lowering 1" so you lose some ground clearance.
