There's a video from Revzilla that explains it better but yes, once you install it on any bike, stays married to that one. I almost made that mistake by buying a cheaper one from E-BAY. Ended up buying a new one from Revzilla.

Just ordered new ones from Revzilla, had some Zilla Bucks that came off the total. Ended up buying 1 for each bike, the road glide and the wife’s heritage.
