Progressive Suspension 440 Seris I.A.S Shocks 13" chrome(440-4213c) on a 1999 Road King FLHRCI
I bought these shocks brand new about ten years ago for my 1999 road king flhrci. I never installed them until recently (ten years later) and within two months the suspensions lower bolt attachment eyelet (attaches to the swing arm) snapped off of both shocks.
Ive heard that I would need some sort of receipt as proof of purchase for warranty but I do not have it, as it was so long ago. Heres my stupid question.....should I take it to a welder and have them tig weld the lower bolt holes back onto the shocks?
Sure, why not?
If they failed from a poor weld then a compitant welder should be able to restore their functionality. The chrome in the area of the welds probably won't survive.

I can't tell you why they broke off only guess ,
First one is , was it made in China?
Next, you can tig it on without hurting anything if you have to.
Tig done in little incriminates puts out very little heat,
Progressive is a stand up company. The 440's and the 444's (what they are called now) come with a lifetime warranty, and are made in the USA plant in California. I'd be pretty suprised if they make a deal out of the receipt if you call them first, and ship them your broken shocks. I've run many progressive shocks, had warranty work done, springs swapped, and many times there was no reciept involved. Maybe things have changed, but I suspect they will take care of you.
A few years back Progressive replaced a set of monotubes that I had purchased on eBay. I won them in an action from a seller that never installed … box had been opened. They parts sat in that box for two more years before I pulled my front end apart to install chrome lowers. Discovered then that Progressive experienced issues with some early production units so I gave them a call. Technical representative told me to send the monotubes to him for inspection / testing. One week later I found a brand-new set sitting at my door.
