Nothing wrong with it at all, if she likes it and it gets her motivated to ride her own bike then DON'T stand in the way!

My wife rides my previous bike - an '01 V-Star 1100 Classic and it's an awesome bike. I still ride it now and then and really like that V-Star.

PS: Those Honda Rebels are AWESOME little bikes. My wife had'97 Rebelfor a little over a year before taking over my 1100 V-Star and I even rode that little Rebel now and then. Once my bike was in the shop for almost two weeks and I rode it to work every day during that time (my commute is 135 miles round trip each day) - hey riding ANY motorcycle is better than taking the cage to work!!! I'll tell you what, by the time I got done riding that Rebel for two weeks I had a healthy respect for it cuz it was truly a trooper for a 250 and it gave me phenomenal MPG's to boot. We sold it for $50 more than we paid for it about a year and a half after we got it!

Well, my wife really wants to get into riding. I would love to get her an HD, but don't have the funds, and she wont let me finance one for her. Her mother has a 86 or 87 Yamaha Phazer. They were only made two years, and her mom bought it new. My father-in-law has a goldwing, and my mother-in-law doesn't ride the Phazer much anymore, so, she gave it to my wife. It has 16k original miles, and her mom keeps all of her stuff in great shape. I knew the wife was getting the bike, at some point. But, I was surprised to see it in the garage when I got home from work tonight. So, now she has a bike to ride. A starter bike, if you will. If the bug gets her, I will bet we will be getting her a HD by Christmas. Anyways, I know this isn't a HD or a touring bike, for that matter. But, I spend all my time in this section of the forum, and wanted to show it off a bit. I am really happy for her.

Nothing wrong with a Yamaha - I even put an HD emblem on the tail. LOL

I doubt that many Harley riders started out with a Harley. I know there is a few but most start out on Metric due to cost and size.

That's a 20+ plus year old bike. I would check out the tires, replace brake fluids, change all oils & filtersand give it a long ride before I would put wifey on. It's in great shape but the years will take their toll even if sitting in a garage. Can you get a service manual?
Hope she enjoys!

I completley agree with Lunder99. I've taken a ride on one of those not that long ago. Those things are fast and handle really quick. That is much closer to a sport bike than you think. I would not even be talking about that bike like a starter bike. Please make sure your wife understands this. Free is a VERY good price, but you must treat that bike with respect.

I think I found a manual for it. I will check the bike over thoroughly before she does any lengthy rides. She is so excited to ride it. I told her I would take her out today and let her putt it up and down the straight stretch of road by my house that is blocked off for traffic. It has two lanes, and will help her with her starts and stops. The off to a parking lot to practice turns. She will be taking the course, just not for about a month or so. So, until then, she can only ride around the neighborhood. She still needs to be indorsed before I will let her drive it around town.
