Default Rear Shocks

I have only owned my 2013 Ultra Classic for 2 months and have totally had it with the suspension. Glad I didn't buy the bike new and spent all that money on a new bike and have MOCO put such poor stock components on it.
Anyway, I don't have a ton of money to spend on suspension.

I am going to use front springs from Sonic. Have used them for other metric bikes and they have been fantastic to say the least. That's going to set me back a whole $90.00 and I consider it money well spent so I am not looking for any suggestions here.
My question is on the rear shocks. Due to limited funds, I am looking at the Progressive 412"s. My question is are they better than the stock shocks?. Not looking for the best shocks or opinions. Just want to know if they are better than stock. Period.
The only other rear shocks I might consider are currently on Craigslist locally. They are Progressive 418's with a heavy duty spring rate(300/350) and adjustable spring rate for $100.00 Don't know if the spring rate would be too stiff.

More so than the front springs, the fork oil is too light. I went with 15w Bel-ray and it fixed my front end dive problem.

Not answering your question but I have a set of the HD 12 inch premium shocks that came off of my Road Glide. Leaps and bounds better than what you have so if interested shoot me a PM.

Anything is better than stock air shocks, just be aware of buying used.

412's are indeed better than stock, but only by so much. The springs don't really compensate for weight changes all that well. If you change weights often you may be better off looking at Pro Action.

Grubsie. How much do you weigh? Do you mostly ride 1 or 2 up? Yes anything is better than stock. Honestly for the the difference in what your looking at. While you said funds are tight. IMO Better off saving a bit and getting something you like verses something you settled on. The difference between stock and a good set of shocks is amazing. Enjoy your ride.

I was getting worried that we would not see the daily post asking about rear shocks. We still need the daily stock seat and handle bar question.

Then wait until you do! Many of the less expensive 'solutions' out there are hardly worth spending your money on, especially if you ride two up. Many of us have gone down a similar road to what you are proposing, buying several less expensive shocks until the truth finally dawns - spend once, spend right. It's actually cheaper that way and a darned sight quicker!
