This past Tuesday I received my 8" FS on time as promised. Had a 5" that came with the ultra limited. The FS is considerably thicker, better quality and easy to install.
Had the bike up to highway speed and no buffeting. I am almost all set for my Florida trip, waiting for cell phone holder and backrest which is scheduled
for delivery today.
I am not knocking any other company as I never used their products. They may even be better. Just sharing my experience.

I placed an order from LRS and it took 2 weeks to arrive. I am not sure if that is a long time or not but it was supposed to be one of their "in-stock" shields that they were running the big sale on. Either way, i received it and it is very high quality. I am happy with how it turned out. 9" Ultra Recurve.

Just received a new shield from LRS, Mega Curve. After submitting original order online I emailed them and asked for a change to 1” higher. Quick response on the change and shield arrived soon thereafter. Pleased with quality and service. Read the install instructions before starting.

This brings the question, if I plan to add a backrest, should I wait until it's mounted to measure for a windshield since it will change my "relaxed" posture?

I am not an expert so do yourself a favor and call John at Freedom Shields. There is no pressure and no commitment, nice guy and will answer your questions. With his info and everyone's comments you can make a decision.
Keep in mind that there are different type of backrests out there. Harley makes one that is adjustable and pricey. I went with Grasshopper backrest. I never had a backrest so will know more this weekend when I go on my road trip.

I am currently running the 9” LRS recurve shield and while it looks great there is a substantial amount of buffeting around my head. I was looking at the wider FS and was about to order but 32 bucks for standard ground shipping? That is quite a bit. I believe the LRS charges were half that.

Update: Clearview shipping is 45 bucks.

Just got my 7" FS last week. Left from Maryland yesterday morning at 5:00AM, 44 degrees. Did 710 miles to Georgia. Shield did its job and felt no buffeting. Works great on my 2017 Ultra limited FLHTKL..
Go to Florida and near 90 degrees, flipped the top of my modular up and put on sunglasses. It was comfortable with the FS. ps: cant get over seeing so many riders without helmets.

Call John at FS and go over what size you need. I am glad I did as i was going to order the 8".

1large, you must be a pretty tall guy, or don’t mind looking through your windshield. I’m wondering if your buffeting issues are from turbulence from under the faring. My ‘12 Limited is calm at 80 into a headwind with a 7” LRS recurve. I suspect it would be the same with an FS recurve. The differences in our bikes may be a clue: Ultra faring wind deflectors, fangs, and Ultra lowers. Take a look at adding the Ultra wind deflectors and those fangs that mount alongside the forks. The lowers are expensive but I’ll tell you when I’ve removed mine I sure notice a difference and wouldn’t hit the road for a serious ride without them.

edit: After further review, I see much of what I wrote doesn’t apply. Thought you had an FLHTC. Anyway, those fangs may help you and maybe that dish-like wind baffle that bolts under the steering head.

I'm 6'2" and run an 11" LRS Flattop, love it, but the only way i could stop my glasses(prescription need to see) from buffeting was to install fangs. I like the JES Customs fangs.
