Personally, I would not be upset with 1800 miles per 1/2 quart.
I thought you said Qt.
I did not read correctly.
Carry on you have no problems .

Air coolers can never be as tight as H20 engines.
*Using a little oil is not a bad thing.
The more modded an engine is, - the loser they are set up.
It is all compromise
*In the AirCraft world, people brag about their particular power plant being so stingy with the oil.
Those of us that have been around the block know if it is NOT using
some oil, about halfway through its life it will be using a LOT!
Again air coolers just can't contain themselves....LOL

im just wondering if it’s rings or blow by because I can smell it out of the air cleaner at stop lights and like I said it has zero smoke out of the exhaust I’ve had it on a dyno a couple times and saw nothing and everyone who is behind me say they see nothing at any throttle position

i did put new umbrella valves in from HD but never opened the drain holes up and I did go to a larger open air intake as well then what I did run in the past

Did you say your ring gap is .014? Hmmm...that may be something to look at.

What is the spec?

Pardon, it's been since the 1980's since I've done a topend. I might be all wet with this. Seems like .001" per inch of piston diameter was what we used when building (and assembling!) engines.

Okay Im not saying your are wrong about an air cooled harley. I just know I have a air cooled V twin on my lawn mower. I run the mower at WOT for four hours at a time. It doesn't use a drop of oil for the whole season. Just say n.

If you are not using oil, then you are smelling venting.
Pretty simple to fall off a log.
