It’s always disappointing when things like that happen.
Things like this are going to happen it’s just a matter of when.
Go ride it- other road debris and rock hits will overshadow this incident.
sgnden - That sucks. Was there alcohol involved? Just kiddin'. I got rid of the HD pins and went with the knobby screw type. They take longer, but I went through 4-of those HD ones. I guess I'm too stupid to use them correctly.
Also, go grab a beer and vacuum the garage floor. And put down some rubber mats. And grab some more beer.
in 2017, hd went away from the dzus pins and implemented a screw type fastener. if you go with a 20% off dealer, you can get them for a good bit cheaper. hell, at this point, even at full pop, less than what you'll spend to fix what you've got now. sure, you can buy the aftermarket kit cheaper, but the hd kit has some benefit. the u nut that attaches to the mount points are more substantial, and the 'bolts' have these washers that are affixed to them that have little **** on them that when you tighten them down, act as lock washers.

simple install. well worth the cost of admission.
Thanks, Skratch. I'm all over that.
On my RK, I installed the anti theft screw style as one of my first mods back then. I won't do the anti-theft screws again as it's a pain to find the tool every time, but great idea to convert!
Run your fingernail over the scratches and see if it hangs in any of them. If not, you can most likely polish them out. I would start with Meguiar’s 105, then Meguiar’s 205. If the fingernail hangs, repaint, or replace.
I'd forget trying to repair it. You can find a new one or near new one on eBay for less $$ than you can paint one. Get one. Switch the hardware and you'll be back to new. Just look for OEM lids '14-'18.
it's been mentioned... but I swapped out the dzus pins for threaded ***** with a clip nut in place of the retainer on the frame. They do loosen up, but i'm in the bags enough, I habitually give them a crank! I also got some clear plastic bumpers and put on each corner on the bottom. That way I can set the bag on the floor and not have to worry about being on the paint on the bottom of the bag. Then lastly I bought a 6-7" wide roll of clear 3m plastic film that I applied to the lid. That will help keep the scuffs and boot heel marks off. Otherwise, just be careful!!!! Kidding of course, but you have some tips. Follow through what you feel comfortable with. Good Luck!

Yeah, time is my issue for sure. I looked on Ebay and searched in Googletron but didn't see any painted ready-to-install lids. Will check back from time to time, I guess.
