Road King Running Erratically
I decided to take my 2003 fuel injected road king for a ride this evening. It started up normally and was idling fine when I was putting my gear on. The bike idled for about 5 minutes in my driveway so when I left it was already pretty warm. The temp was in the mid 40's too. When I pulled out onto the street and twisted the throttle it started to accelerate then stalled. I pulled the clutch in and it fired right back up. Then when I would let off the throttle with the bike would idle high for about 5-10 seconds and then settle back into the normal idle. I only took the bike up the street and back, less then a mile total. It did stalled out a couple more times but would fire back up until I started to twist the throttle. It wouldn't do it all the time either. I've never had something like this happen before. When it was running without stalling out it seemed to be running fine. There was no pattern to it either.

I had a similar problem with my 2007 Ultra. There is a thing called IAC orifice. If it gets dirty it will cause idle problems. Take the air cleaner off. It is the12 oclock position. Just in front of the butterfly.
Spray cleaner into it while cyclying the ignition on and off. Worked on mine.

I’ve had the IAC issue as well but it was usually coming back down to idle after driving at normal speed. The issue you’re explaining sounds like what my old softie did when the PC3 **** the bed before I did a TTS tune. The power commander failed from one start to the next and of course I was 6 miles from home in the middle of the city with 30 traffic lights. It stalled if you let it idle, stalled if you gave it too much gas, backfired if you looked at it funny......

Thanks for the replys. No there is not a fuel tunning device on the bike. It ran great on Tuesday. I was thinking about putting a Fuel Moto 98 kit in the bike over the winter since the bike needs the cam chain tensioner upgrade and their kit isnt that much more then the hydraulic tensioner upgrade and a set of cams, but now Im not to sure if I want to do that until this problem is fixed. It seems like the riding season is just about over in northeast Ohio now too.
