Good winter project for sure. Make sure you have plenty of beer on hand! Mothers or semichrome and a polishing wheel that attaches to a drill and get after it.

rk classic.

I've used Mother's Aluminum polish for the actual cleaning and polishing of the wheel, the other I've used for a long time is Starbrite Marine Polish. this product is designed for use in marine environments and works well protecting the surfaces. Rub it on and wipe off, after using the Mothers. Also use it on the chrome surfaces as a protectant against water spots.

I did, like a hundred by now LOL. I am going to pick some 600-1000 paper and get going with this. Just go my new rubber, and tho I wont be using it until next season, I cant wait to see it mounted on the shiny wheels

I started with a die grinder with the lightest abrasive pad. then 1000 grit paper then 1500 grit paper then 2000 grit paper. washed them up then used captain Richards . da bomb polishing stuff. it works great. rub it till the cloth starts to turn black then move around the wheel til finished. I did mine about 7 years ago and have only repolished twice. still looks good. see sig pic I had to do the iron horse billet wheels about once a year. just be patient

Default Progress made :)

I am happy to report that some progress has been made.
I am not real happy yet, I think I will go to 800-1000 grit paper, but the shine is on!

They look good, you should do the center hubs too while the rims are of the bike.

They're looking great!
I just picked up a pair for my touring bike as well so I'll be following this thread.
Always hated cleaning spoked wheels, that being the reason for picking up the wagon wheels.
Dont forget to change out the bearings.

Thanks. I will, I am in the trial and error stage. The hubs will take quite a lot more sanding, as they are milled a bit rougher.

Yep, bearings are on the list before they go on the bike. I tell you what, getting the tires off had me sweating... it was a vocabulary enriching experience!

Talking

The black parts will need a bit of love by the time you finish the bright parts! This could take some time, I can see.....
