Default Stage I Update - Still Too Hot!!

Finished the install of my Stage I upgrade on my Ultra and had hoped the oil temperature would come down abit more than it did. Before the upgrade, I was running at about 270 degrees F in the 90+ degree heat (out here in Albuquerque). Went for a ride on Sunday where the temperature rose to around 100 degrees in most areas and the temperature was around 250. The bike did ping a little bit, but nowhere near what it did before the upgrade. Am I right in assuming the next step would be an oil cooler? If so, should I get the one from the dealer or the one from Jagg? Money is not necessarily an issue here- it's more about protecting an asset..

I don't have an oil cooler and I live in Phoenix. It was 111° when I was riding Saturday for awhile but since I don't havea way to measuremy oil temp.I have no idea what it was but it runs OK with no pinging. I know I was hotter then hell.

For the heat........try synthetic oils.

For the ping........stay out of the heat.

Try Jagg's 10-row low mount oil cooler, part number 2300 with their #4700 adapter. Shooter64 on this website can fix you up.
It's bigger than the 6-row H-D unit, and you can see pics of my install here along with some amplifying information:
https://www.hdforums.com/m_1834608/tm.htm

It's a simple install &you'll feel a difference with the Stage 1 and this cooler...

How about the reusable Oil Fiter from Pure Power, acts as a cooler also? Anyone installed one of these? They claim HP and TQ increase due to better unrestricetd flow of the oil. Dyno proven, with their oil.

I put a PCIII on mine to cool it down. I have one map that runs real cool for rallies. Have one that is better on gas for trips. One that is very strong for racing around town (bad on gas though). The PCIII did it for my 06 UC.I thoughtthis bikewas going to burn my nads when I first bought it.

when you said you did a Stage 1, did you reprogram the ECU to accomodate the new AC and slip-ons. Real issue with the '07s is too lean of the AFR that makes the engine run extremely hot. Do a SERT or PC or someother fuel management system to richen up the mixture. check your plugs to see if they are showing a lean condition (white tips).
I did the stage 1 with a SERT and it made a BIG difference in temp. I later added a HD premium oil cooler and a set of RJs original saddle shields. On the hottest day (over 100 degrees) i haven't gotten over 220 on my oil tem.

Guess my signature isn't clear enough - I am running the V & H FuelPak. I am also using Syn3 in all the holes (per the dealer). Don't get me wrong, when I did the Stage I upgrade it did make a BIG difference, just not enough. This is an '06 and I'd left it stock for an entire year before I did any upgrades to it. But I got tired of the sub-standard performance and the heat (mostly). Still thinking about taking the lowers off and seeing if that makes any difference. MaybeI'll do the Jagg Oil Cooler too unless the dealership wants to make me an offer I can't refuse to put an oil cooler from H-D on it.

I seen a 20 deg decrease in temps after installing the HD cooler so That would put you in the 230 deg range. I bet if you pulled the lowers off you would see another 10 deg drop or close to it which would put you near 220. You could call V&H and I'm sure they could richen the map up for you a little more.

Harleys run to lean to start with hear are 2 suggestions for you. First get rid off that Syn3 it's junk, use Red Line or Ams oil it is a full synthetic oil. I use Red Line in my bike runs about 15degrees cooler also the trans is much quieter. Second a little more exspencive Thundermax programmer, bike runs much better afer this installation.
