Im looking at a 2014 Limited and am having concerns about the lower fairings not coming off. I live and ride year-round in South Florida and the heat can be brutal on the 13 SG I have now. Should I pass it up? I didnt know the fairings had water in them until about an hour ago. Any other concerns about the 2014 Im ignoring?
I've ridden over 60,000 miles the last 3 years with lowers on my dressers. Haven't left Florida in that time. Doesn't bother me to have lowers attached.
Concerns! I put 18,000 miles on my '14 SGS in 8 months. It was a great bike. 103HO, larger/stiffer fork tubes, GPS and one hand to operate bags. They made some good improvements with the Rushmore's.
There are vents that open up in the lowers that can bring in alot of air. On 100deg days the only heat ive noticed is to the back of my right thigh from the exhaust when im not moving. No cats on my bike either. Other than that i love my 14.
The engine temps are slightly cooler with the wethead, so that'll probably help you. The lowers have opening/ closing vents. The Limited also have wind deflectors on the batwing that are adjustable and direct air to you.
I don't live in Florida, but i ride when it's mid to upper 90's and equal humidity here in iowa. As long as you're moving it's doable.
Get the cat removed or get a new head pipe and get a tuner for a nice rich (cooler) running bike.
I ride regularly in 100 degree temps. Catless head pipe and an FP3 tuner makes it good to go.
I ride a 14 Limited with about 40,000 miles on it. It has been the best bike I've ever had. The liquid cooled heads really keep the heat down. If you hold your hand out to the side of the bike while riding then put your hand down beside the motor, it feels like the same temperature. There have been problems with the water pumps, but I think HD has a handle on it now with a new replacement pump. I have ridden in high temps without any problems many times. I wouldn't hesitate buying the Limited because of the lowers.
