Yeah... I'm still researching... Matt talks in the video about how much do you spent for how much extra gain you get out of them. If you watch his original video he spent about 10k in upgrades when he first bought that bike. He didn't start with Fox... He also mentions a lot of people buy heavy duty springs and don't need them.

Please don;t tell my wife, but I don't give a damn how much II'm going to spend on my new shocks. I'm tired of getting ones that disappoint. Going all the way this time.

Yeah, I'm not sure which to upgrade first, the rear or the front...

Definitely the rear IMHO, as that is where the benefit can be the most immediate. Many of us having done that then discover that the forks also need an upgrade, but I for one didn't feel that doing that was so essential. The forks also involve greater expense and effort to change, so doing the shocks gives quicker results.

OK so I took off the cheezy 12" adjustable Harley oem shocks and went with the 13" Ohlins. Then I used a lowering kit, in the middle position.

This makes the bike rear 1" lower than stock. This is the ride height I set up on my previous 2010 Classic.

It is an inch lower. I can tell when I try to put the jack under the bike. I have to upright it to roll the jack in or out.

I am going with the HD 13" shocks off a 2019 Ultra Classic FLHTCU to replace the 12" on my 2016 FLHXS. The HD part#'s are 54000093 and 54000094. For $200 and being on a budget, I hope they fit the bill. Supposedly the 2017 and up shocks both the 12"and 13" are supposed to be better than the older ones.

Ok, ya got me! So far about $4500 in extras. I figured I'd spend $200 instead of $750-$800 since I felt the ride was ok with the exception of bottoming once in a while. ?

HAHA!!! Struck me as weird too.....I wish I could squeeze a 2016 SG Special into my budget!!

aqua754, I think you'll be a lot happier if you with something different. For a few more hundred dollars you can find something used on Craigslist or FB Marketplace. I also hear awesome things about Bitubo shocks which can be had for around $500. Personally I would wait, save some cash, start looking in the couch cushions, deliver pizza or something and get something that you KNOW you'll be happy with.
