Did some work on PFD161's bike today, which involved new Chubby bars, internal wiring, grips, and Sirius Radio.
Now for the very odd problem...............after getting it all back together, the 2 lower switches on the right side don't work. They control the function and channel on the radio, and the cruise control. All the wires are in the right spots in the plug, we checked the wires for breaks and they all checked out fine. Not really sure what to look at next, and I'm truely stumped on this issue.
Anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this?
When I did my last set of bars I had a problem not the same problem, but a problem none the less. When I traced all the wires I found that two of the same color with a different trace had gotten crossed that was causing my problems. Have you checked all your splice points to make sure that you didn't cross anything up by mistake and that everything is tight and that you don't have a dry solider
When I work on those Deutsch/Molex connectors I can get a little dyslexic. I'd check to be sure the cruise and audio wires are in the correctnumbered slotsand that their connectors are well-crimped to the conductor in each.
Also, it is possible the sockets/pins are not seated well in the connector and are not making electrical contactwith its corresponding connector.
Lastly, itis pretty easy to break a primary lock on an individual socket inside the Deutsch connector when removing a wire, and when the wire is reinserted into theconnector the socket and pin don't connect. You might try,if youhaven't already, assembling the two connectors andpushing the audio and cruise wires into the connector.
Try disconnecting one wire at a time, and then reconnect one wire at a time making sure each wire works. It may be a pain in the a*&, but we use to do things similar when we had problems in alarm/CCD work.
We wrote down every wire and it's position before taking it apart, I double checked each wire after putting it back together. I checked each wire to make sure it wasn't broken, I'm made sure they wires are in their sockets securely, I've double checked all the obvious stuff........now I'm wondering what to look for that is obscure.
Do you have a multimeter? If so check your switches to make sure they are still good. Sometimes as alrady stated those Deutsch plugs are a real PITA. I'm an electrician and have miswired them many times as they dont go logicly like most other plugs. I know you said you have checked them. Sometimes the person who did the work will miss the most obivous mistake. Get someone else to look at wires and double check and if need be actually trace them out. Seems you may have power mis wired. Just my .02 worth. Good luck
