Question I have a Luggage Rack Question

My 2015 Street Glide came with a curved H-D Detachable Two-Up Luggage Rack. For the Life of me, I cannot see why this rack would be usable for tying down luggage. It's pretty, but as far as I can see, not very practical. I am wanting to get some luggage to do some traveling once the weather gets better and I am new to this and don't know if I should just bite the bullet and get the flat rack to tie down a large bag or if this will work and I am overthinking it. What, if any, issues do I need to consider? Thanks in advance for any help.

It looks like you could fit a good sized backpack on it but that’s about it.

I may be able to use something like the HD Premium Luggage System and put the large bag between the rider's back rest and the passenger sissy bar. Then tie the smaller bag to the luggage rack like in the picture below. I may go by the dealer when it quits raining here and borrow one of the smaller bags and see if it will fit.

I figured the flat rack would be ideal. I saw an older YouTube video from a Harley dealer somewhere talking about an adjustable flat luggage rack that had "wings" that could be pulled out from the sides to make the rack wider but I haven't been able to find it on the web anywhere yet.

Never mind. Found the adjustable rack. It's $400. That's out of the question.

Motorcycle specific bags have a sleeve that slips over the passenger backrest. The rack is only to carry the weight and for a place to attach the straps. I’ve gone cross country multiple times with the curved rack. You don’t need anything bigger.

Thanks. Good to know. I have a sissy bar and a rider's back rest. I think there's about 12" between the two. From what that bag looks like, it should fit between the two (mounted backwards) so I could mount a smaller bag on the actual luggage rack. It's just me so I don't need to keep the passenger seat open.

I used to do that before I got this bag. This one is big enough for a long trip and it has wheels. And I do put it on the seat and leave the luggage rack behind when I’m alone.
