I have always had excellent luck with EBC pads. Did your pads come in the manufacturer's blister package or had they been repackaged? Can't say if any of us would have noticed something stuck on a new pad, but that certainly seems to be what happened.

I'm thinking more something IN the pad.

Jesus, there is absolutely nothing wrong with HD brake pads. All these people who go aftermarket for critical parts always puzzle me. Sure, something can get inside any manufacturer's parts; I just do not see why people keep screwing with OEM critical stuff.

sure, nothing wrong with oem brake pads. other than $150 for a set of 3. i bought some pads from d2moto when i got around 30,000 on my stock ones. the d2moto pads were $20 for the set. i got the organic cause the semi-sintered were out of stock at the time. i have only changed the rear pads, fronts are still good on the stock pads. i know the organic pads don't last as long, but they are easy enough to change on the newer touring bikes (2009 and up) that i don't consider it a big deal.

i know you're going to say that you would't trust a $20 'critical part', but my response would be, why pay more if you don't have to. just because it cost more, doesn't always mean it's better.

skratch is correct, of course. Yet, we always hear about aftermarket stuff that screws up someone's cycle. Saving money makes ultimate sense. I am no HD parts' proponent. But then, don't bitch about why your aftermarket parts fail.

Why on earth not? Being aftermarket doesn’t give parts some right to be defective or cause damage.

Yeah I was thinking that too. Looks like something emerged from that gouge. I've had a few people say the pad looks fine and I just needed to let it settle in. Anyways, we'll see what happens. Waiting for the exchange for now.
