'15 SG Doesn't Crank
The bike will not start if it's not in neutral or if you don't squeeze the clutch lever if it's in gear.
Starter Does Not Operate or Does Not Turn Engine Over
- Engine OFF/RUN switch in OFF position.
- Ignition switch not ON.
- Discharged battery or loose or corroded connections (solenoid chatters).
- Clutch lever not squeezed against handlebar or transmission not in neutral.
- Jiffy stand not in retracted position (for models equipped with jiffy stand interlock).
- Blown fuse.
It's just pieces to a puzzle which you will get sorted out by eliminating each piece and then eventually you'll hear it bump over... and that endorphin hit when it happens will be so elating.
I hope you keep us updated... Will take some extra time to stop and update this thread but let's us live vicariously through it. :-)
there is nothing in the owner's manual of the rushmore bikes to indicate what you say either. it just mentions that the starter and ignition are disabled.
If I take my FOB away from the bike and turn the ignition on my headlight stays off, no fuel pump, no radio and the odometer displays says enter PIN. I enter the PIN and I have lights, radio and fuel pump runs if run / stop switch is in run. YMMV depending on model
Either way, it will cost you.
To follow up, I think someone already mentioned that these don't have starter relays - the signal comes from the BCM to start the starter when you push the start button. However, the BCM will not send the signal if the battery is not above certain volts.
So on Saturday, I confirmed that the battery is an AGM and went to Advanced Auto to see if they have any chargers for it. They actually had two a small (Junior) that was .75 amps, and a Plus that was 1.25 amps. I opted for the 1.25 amp charger/maintainer for about $50.
I charged it over night Sunday. Sunday morning I looked in the garage and the light was blinking green, meaning battery is 80% charged, where as when I first plugged in, it was solid red.
With it charged up, I gave it a quick flick on the start button and sure enough, the starter engaged.
To summarize, I didn't see the lights dim as I tried to start it before with a half-way charged battery, because the BCM only sends the signal to the starter when the battery is only above a certain volt threshold.
I didn't want to crank it until I get a new throttle body on there, which is on the way.
I also removed the tank yesterday (still trying to remove the guts (pump).
For some reason there still is no sound coming from the speakers though. I'll have to remove the front fairing to see if everything is still plugged in behind it.
Thanks again and I hope this helps someone in future.

Did you change your PIN

Looking at the pictures a few things come to mind;
If you have to remove sheared off bolts try a left hand or reverse drill bit first. Sometimes they come out so easy that way.
The 2 into 1 pipe indicates the bike should have a tuner, whether the owner bought one or had a tuning license purchased through a Dyno shop it would be worth looking into. You can call HD Tec line and give them the VIN and they can tell you the dealer that sold the bike. Then you could call the dealer and they might have a record of any engine mods and service that was done. If they won't give you the previous owners name ask them to call the owner and give that person your contact info. It's worked for me in the past.
Good Luck
Bill
