Default Backrest spring

I recently purchased a used backrest for my Ultra Classic. Its the kind that has a spring you squeeze together to insert it into the backrest mount. Problem is the spring is missing. I can't find the part number in my parts manual. Can anyone give me that part number? I don't get to a dealer very often and would like to try to find one online.

Thank you

Don’t know what backrest you have, but if it is one of these …
51564-09A, 51631-09A, 52530-09A, 52572-09A, 52583-09A, 52900-09A, 52914-09A, 52300008

then it may be
part number 10406.

Might help if you gave more information.

I just happened to have mine sitting out of the bike as I prepare to remove the gas tank to replace the IAC motor. But anyhoo....... if you don't have easy access to a HD store you may be able to find a compression spring at your local Home Depot or Ace Hardware or whatever.

Here are the physical dimensions of the spring you need:
Wire Dia.: .042"
ID: .390"
Free Length: 2.18"
No of Coils: 13
Ends Closed and Ground.

+ 1 on Home Depot!!!!!!!!!!!
You can find an almost exact duplicate spring there. Take your backrest in with you to use to get the right length and diameter spring.

I agree with both above posts..... take backrest into local hardware and look for compression springs. Just be aware these can, and will, pop out.

If you put epoxy on each end of the spring and install it on the tangs, the spring will never pop off.

I apologize for skimping on information. I assumed they were all the same. I'm guessing mine is p/n 52900-09A Smooth Leather Style.

Thanks for all the other replies. I should have thought of the Home Depot idea myself!
