Have a 06 electra Classic efi. High miles. Stage 1 Do fair amount of 2 up. Not very aggressive rider but like to get up and go too
Looking for a cam chest kit or piece one together. Cant decide which cams to go with. Crank run out was within spec but not sure I need to go gear drive
S&S 509 with the Screamin Eagle hydraulic cam plate upgrade and a tune would be a good choice. I had gear drive on my Softail, if I had to do it again I would go hydraulic.
I wish I could tell you with personal experience how nice it is to eliminate the silly need to concern oneself with perishable plastic parts within an engine. I can't due to my runout being an HD acceptable 0.004".......S&S specs are 0.003". Make sure you measure TIR accurately, especially if using test indicators.
I have S&S Easy Start cams......I like them. My Softail cams wouldn't be ideal for your heavy touring needs.
I can't think of a downside of going gear drive. It is the way it should have came from the factory. I'm just a rider that does not do this as a trade so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Ive never done this before to a bike so I wanna get it right. Ill check the run out again or my buddy will before I buy anything.
Feuling has a kit more in my price range. But I keep reading there oil pumps are hit or miss.
So if I cant go kit wise or my runout is to great for gear driven Im thinking Andrews 26 chain cams. Which oil pump is next question ? And go to hydraulic chain tensioners
dont have fhe biggest budget mind you
