I know what you mean, that's why I'm just stuffing it under the seat for a rainy day.... to use in an eventual flat tire situation with an air compressor for example. Personally I won't be using it to ride and simultaneously power up a GPS or other device, for me it's just piece of mind to know there's a 12v power port under the seat that I can use at any time for any reason.

Just to clarify, you need to drill a hole in your side panel and install the power port flush mounted so you have access from the outside. That's another reason why i'm just leaving it under the seat, I don't want to drill a hole in my side cover. The wire provided is only long enough to get as far as the side panel, but I guess you could splice-in extension wiring and install it wherever you please.

Here's a link to a blog about the power port and detailed installation: http://91843-97.blogspot.com/2014/02...stall.html?m=1

Wouldn't this be easier than all that wiring and drilling?

Also, I've got a small air compressor with the same pigtail in case it's ever needed. Just be sure the fuse in the charger pigtail will accommodate the compressor draw.

Yep, my compressor will plug into the tender pigtail, which I replaced the standard 7.5 amp fuse with a 15 amp fuse, and I also have that same deltran usb plug (That is a 2 amp) that I use for my passenger to charge Her smart phone.
My Slime Digital Compressor says it pulls 7 amps, and that was just too close to the 7.5 amp rating. I see no reason that the pigtail cable can't handle the 15 amp rating. Besides - just take a look at that pigtail to the battery - you cannot easily get to that fuse without pulling the seat!

Drill a hole? wtf? Hell no.

Most of us use battery tenders, this is a far simpler option and cheaper. I used to run one of these off the SAE pigtail on my battery to the saddlebag (old Softail), then could plug in and charge a phone while riding.

I am not seeing the benefit of this HD product.

One difference is the HD product will be powered off when the motorcycle is switched off. Depending upon how one has wired up their battery tender cable, that might not be true with the product you posted.
BTW: I have the battery tender product you posted a picture of.
For people that have a number of different accessories wired to their battery, one might want to look into a power distribution module like the PDM60.
I plan to wire-up my motolights to my PDM60 and program it to keep my motolights on for a minute or two after I shutoff my motorcycle. Similar to what many new cars do today with their headlights.

"Drill a hole? wtf? Hell no."

I agree lol, that's why I'm stuffing it under the seat, it'll be there when I need it....I'm not drilling any holes I didn't design the thing, I'm just trying to explain what it was designed for.
My air compressor has a cig lighter plug so the HD power port works for my application. Personally I wanted a switched power outlet and as LQQK_OUT explained, the HD power port's power will be controlled via the ACC switch on the left side behind the nacelle of my RK, as opposed to always being hot if using a "Battery Tender Cig Lighter Adapter" plugged into the SAE pigtail of the battery as you suggest.

OR...

Instead of drilling a hole, make a mount and bolt the mount close to where you want it to be and drill a hole in that for he unit. Then wire in.

The problem, as I see it, with using the accessory power for a compressor is using a high current draw compressor with all the bikes lights etc on. It worries me having to use a compressor by itself. Even if the bike were idling the charging system won't be able to keep up...
