I am in the middle of installing RKCustom bars on my RKClassic.
I looks like there is no way that the brake line is gonna stretch far enough to
bolt the master cylinder back up. Has anyone else run into this?
I'm trying to locate a RKCustom brake line but is this my only option ?
Thanks
I have installed a lot of the Wild 1 bars on Roadkings and they are pretty much the same. You should be able to CAREFULLY straighten your existing line and make it work. Check the slack on the line running down to the caliper you may have some you can pull up from there also.
RoadKing Customs came from the factory with longer throttle/idle cables, clutch cables and brake lines to make the stretch for the factory beach bars. Putting beach bars on a Classic will probably require changing all the lines. Try www.hdbikeparts.comfor longer lines. Unfortunately, the stock brake lines are one piece from the master cyl. all the way down to the calipers and you can't change just the top section. FWIW, I found the beach bars on mine were very uncomfortable and werethe 1st thing to go. Kind of like riding a wheel barrow all day. To each his own.
Dose anyone know if police road king has bigger bars and are the cables the same on both the roadking classic and the police king???? Looking to bring my bar up and back alittle
If you wanted some pull back and not going to the trouble of changing your cables, H-D PartNumber 55954-00 Handlebar, Pullback Fits FLHR is the ticket. I changed out the stock RK bars and this raised my grips about 2 inches, and came back almost 2 inches. Now my back is not crouched over on the long hauls.
I've read on this forum that the police bikes come with Heritage bars, taller with more pull back. Don't know if the cables are the same. I changed my beach bars to the Heritage bars and was very happy with them, at least until I changed them again to Wild1 Chubby 12.5 "apes".
Ram. are those the pulbacks on the EG in your picture?
Sorry that photo has not been updated.
The bars in picture are still the orignalsthat came on my bike.
I've thought about getting a photo of them as close a match asI can with the difference in bars an post in the gallery. Have been ate up with other projects on hand for the moment!
I did the same swap on my Classic. The dealer just straightened out the brake line. It is not a perfect straight line but it works. I love my new bars. Made the ride much more comfortable. They look sweet too.
