Default 8" Z Bars

I'm thinking about putting 8" Z Bars on my Iron and was wondering if the factory cables will work or will I have to buy longer cables? Any pics of 8" z bars would also be appreciated.

all the cables will work with minor adjustments except for the brake line. I just put 10 inch Z bars on my 48 and the brake line was to short by about 5 inches. I am replacing it with a braided cable that is a "cut to fit" kit that comes in a 6ft roll. Was told it only takes like 5 minutes to make! Bought it from my Harley dealer. brand name Magnum.$55. heres a picture of my 48. Dont have the brake line yet. Will finish it up this weekend. the brake line you see now is the stock 1 that I bent to try to make fit. Works if you let it dangle, but looks like crap.

That's good to hear. My local Harley dealer quoted me $750 for 10" bars, cables and install......Holy S*%! So, I figure by going with 8" bars I can save some bucks. Thanks for the info. P.S. Your bars look awesome.

Yep, I have 12" Z's. Dealer wanted $1k. I'm finishing them up myself. Hardest part so far was getting the throttle/idle lines from right housing. You won't have to, so it should be pretty easy. I do however recomend internal wiring. A bit more work, but you can't beat the clean look in the end.

Thanks, you definatly can do it way cheaper yourself. I paid $80 for the bars from Licks cycles and $55 for the steal braided cable. All I did was cut a couple zip ties to get the other cables to stretch some more. Other than a new brake line and bleading the brakes, it is an easy job! I will will have the new brake cable Friday and then it will be done! Exhaust will be next.

The internal wiring is something I definately want, but not quite sure how to do it. If I'm not mistaken, there is a harness under the tank that the wires come out of and you have to extend them. Any tips or pointers?

There is a wiring harness under tank. Once you get it off, you can put it back on, but I think it would be a pain. I would recomend a wire tuck. May have to do a slight tank rise in order to tuck all the wires.

As far as the internal wiring goes...yes, you would have to disconnect the left and right handlebar wiring. There is a quick disconnet under the tank, but you then need to pull the wiring connectors apart. Not a hard job, but a bit tedious.

Search (joebotics) posts for a coil ignition/relocation instructions. Very helpful with my stuff. Let me know if you need any help. I could better direct you with specifics.

Put my braided brake line on the other day. The magnum kit works great! Took like 5 minutes to cut to size and put the ends together. I did have to drop my forks a tiny bit also because the bars hit the top of the fork tubes.
