Default PackTalk Bold & Bluetooth Issue

I have a huge problem. With my PackTalk Bold paired to my iPhone Xs Max and with the phone paired to my motorcycle, when I get an incoming call, the call is initially answered by the PackTalk Bold but after about 2 seconds, It goes to the Street Glide. I then have to get my iPhone and switch the call's output back to the PackTalk Bold. I have tried many things, including unpairing both the PackTalk Bold and the Street Glide from the phone and then pairing the PackTalk Bold first and then the Street Glide but the behavior continues. I have tried resetting the network settings on my phone, which includes resetting all Bluetooth options and preferences, but the behavior still persists. There is a setting on the iPhone under Accessibility called 'Call Routing' and the options for this are 'Automatic', 'Speaker', or 'Headset'. I have tried changing my phone to each of this options with the exact same issue still occurring each time. Music from my iPhone to the Street Glide speakers works perfectly well over Bluetooth. All firmware and software updates are applied to the phone, PackTalk Bold, and the Street Glide. This is a huge issue because I would rather not have to mount my iPhone to my bike and then mess with the settings on the iPhone every time a call comes in. I am sure I am not the first person to experience this. I consider my self a pretty tech savvy guy but I cannot figure this out and need your help. Please, this is driving me crazy.

I do have the Wireless Headset Interface Module on my Street Glide Special but I am not even pairing my PackTalk Bold to it until I get this issue figured out. I mention this to be clear that the WHIM is not even being used at this point. At least not until I can figure out how to get this basic feature to function properly.

Do you have "settings/phone/allow calls on other devices" turned off?

I have "automatic" set on "Audio Call Routing"

Normally, I set the phone to the 1st phone channel, and the WHIM to the 2nd phone channel. When in this position there seems to be a bit of delay when I hit the phone button on the PackTalk and then say "Hey Siri, phone ####". I have hot numbers set in the PackTalk, but haven't tried to use them yet.

Previously, I paired the phone to the Boom, and just used the "talk" button on the bike to initiate a command, and then told the bike to "Call Blah Blah..." and the bike directed the phone. Siri will be gone, but bike commands will work.

note: Be aware that when the PackTalk is paired to the WHIM, you can no longer use DMC. There is a way around this - by setting the WHIM as a GPS - but in doing that you loose mic input to the Boom and can only listen, but DMC will function.

Thank you for the excellent information. I feel like there is not a lot of people who have researched this issue as much as we have and are simply settling for the limited functionality of the headset in these various scenarios.

I have ont have the Settings>Phone>Allow Calls On Other Devices turned off. I thought that only applied to other Apple devices connected to iCloud like an iPad, or MacBook. Did you experience the issue with your bike grabbing the phone cal from the PackTalk? Did disabling the 'Allow Calls On Other Devices' resolve this particular issue?

it just really sucks that some type of functionality is limited in any of the possible scenarios. I don't necessarily care about being able to use the mic from the headset to dictate commands to the bike. This would be great so that I could actually change my destination using voice commands while riding the bike but having Siri to me is more important.

Really, DMC will not work if paired to the WHIM? Although, I have not tested communication using DMC while paired to the WHIM, I have noticed that the light still flashes green to indicate it is in DMC mode.

They make this all way too complicated. These devices should work seamlessly together. I don't know whether to blame Harley Davidson or Cardo.

No one else has had issues with this or other Bluetooth headsets and the Rushmore model bikes?

While I do not have a Packtalk Bold, I do have some familiarity with this issue. Here's where I would start:

If you first pair the phone to the headset, and then the headset to the bike, you get dramatically different results than if you first pair the phone to the bike, and then pair the headset to the bike.

NEVER pair the phone to BOTH the headset and the bike.

From my experience, and what I've heard from other riders. FIRST pair the phone to the bike and NOT to the headset, and then pairing the headset to the bike, is the safest first thing to try.

You are correct with Never pairing both phone and headset at one time to the bike. I don't have a Packtalk but do have the Sena 20S EVO and a 2019 SGS with the WHIM. The preferred way ,according to both Sena and H-D, is to pair the BT headset to the Boom and then pair your phone to the Boom. This way all calls come into the Boom and easily answered by the right button on the handle bar. You can still make use of Siri by using the command button on the left handle bar. (just push that command button a little longer until you hear Siri) The momentary press of the command button gives you a beep in your headset and then it's looking for you to say a command like tune to (radio station, show map etc.) By having the phone only paired to the headset you lose the ability to see who's calling on the Boom screen but you have direct access to Siri via your headset button for a variety of functions. (call or directions to) If the OP needs the functionality of DMC, and I understand why, I'm not sure that would be lost if he paired the Packtalk to the Boom and his phone to the Boom. He might have to call Cardo on that one.

I just got the Packtalk Bold.... but no experience with these yet. My intent is to listen to music and talk with my buddy. I will subscribe to this to see what else I can learn. I'm anxious for spring to get here so we can try these out.

You can test them out in your garage like I am doing. This way you will know what questions you have before you are out riding.

we've more or less done this!!! We were together playing with these and mounting to helmets and I said cardo music on and he jumped! Startled him...said he heard me..... we played with that a few, so we know that works. We are waiting to get the final mounts on helmets and do this again. Plus we are both talking about getting another helmet that may be more suitable for mount of the mic.
But still watching this too!!!

Hi guys,
So has anyone got the Packtalk paired to the WHIM and use the intercom in DMC Mode? That’s what we’re trying to figure out. Different threads say DMC works with WHIM and some say it doesn’t work in DMC.
