I like the features of waze but it will crash from time to time and I have to use such an app for my job. Never that big of a deal to restart it. Handy how it reports police, road issues ahead.
I have Copilot on my phone and tablet.
At stops I can check out the area roads on the tablet, sometimes to navigate around storms on trips.
Maps are downloaded on the device so no data network needed.
I use Waze when I am in service, I have Garmin USA for when I am out of service.
Garmin has discontinued their support of the app, and it will shortly (if not already) no longer be available. I don't know why they have discontinued support. I have been looking for another non-service option.
Waze is excellent for traffic avoidance and direct point A to B directions.
I use Waze for traffic purposes. If I am creating a route and want to import a gpx track I use OSMAND.
I use Ride with GPS to create a route and then import it into OSMAND on the phone. When I create a route I export the gpx to my Dropbox folder on the computer. Once that is done it automatically syncs to my phone (via Dropsync) and is put automatically into the OSMAND folder and is reafy to go. You do not need to plug anything into the computer. You can also create routes on the app itself.
The most complicated part is syncing Dropsync to your Dropbox folder and OSMAND folder on the phone.
When that is complete all you do is:
1. Create route and export to Dropbox folder.
2. Open the OSMAND app on phone and selected your saved route.
Makes it so there no need for a seperate GPS. My phone is bigger than a lot of good units as well. Smart phones do not need a signal for the GPS to work. I can also do everything by voice so no need to touch the screen. If your gloves cannot operate the phone screen you can sew conductive thread into your gloves finger tips.
OSMAND did take some getting used to after years of using a Garmin Nuvi.
Also, OSMAND maps are offline and downloaded onto your phone.
