This thread is a great. I'm gonna change my radio to a Sony AX5000 and one of my concerns was having GPS navigation in areas without cell data. Downloading offline maps and still have the ability to get directions should solve that issue.

I use Waze most of the time. If I am driving in an area with poor coverage then I download the maps for the area using google maps and use it instead.

Waze uses google maps but you get all the benefits of crowd sourced real time info. It has saved me from a few tickets. Hell my last Iron Butt, Waze saved me 4 times. Google maps are the MOST current and up to date maps on roads and construction out there. My Garmin unit still doesn't know about a section of state highway I have been riding on for the last 8 years.

I have given up on the Head unit on the bike, I use it only for music...

I tried using traffic data with XM years ago and it was horrible and quite inaccurate. It also didn't cover much outside of large metro areas, Waze covers the complete world as long as someone using it is ahead of you and reports what is going on!

I like Waze although the popup ads when I stop are getting annoying. I usually use this time to do a quick review of any up coming turns, then the ad pops up. But I mostly use maps.me for downloaded maps when I'm south of the border where cellular data roaming can get expensive.

Google maps using downloaded maps. I've had issues with Waze getting me close and then just forgetting where it was going. Last Friday, I got off the highway and the business I was trying to find was just another mile or so. Waze had the address in the wrong spot and when I got off the highway, it just quit navigation. I had to switch to Google. I like Waze, and I'm using it more and more, but I think it still needs some work.

But, my bike has the Boom navigation, so I don't use either on the bike. If the HD nav gets me lost, I pull off and bring up google maps.

I see Sygic has offline maps. Does it import GPX routes and does it route them well?

I will be traveling abroad in the coming months. I am renting a SG without a nav system.
I want to plan my routes with Ride Planner or equivalent and download the GPX files onto a phone app that supports offline maps (I don't want to pay for international data!)

When I tried to send routes to Google maps, it changed the order of the waypoints. I think it is optimized for delivery trucks. That IS NOT what I am looking for.
I also am a dedicated Waze user in my car, that also does not import GPX files, so it is of no use to me.. I don't want to plan routes on my phone.

Is there another phone app anyone can recommend that supports offline maps and importing GPX routes easily.
