Default 2019 Ultra Diagnostics

For you guys in the know, My electrical manual calls out the HD 50390-1 Breakout Box for diagnostics. My question is, do you need just one box and several overlays and cables, or do you need a different box for the ECM, BCM, ABS, Radio and advanced radio. My next question is are they year specific or generic over several years. I'm not having a problem, but just want to get ahead of the curve if I do have a problem. Thank ahead for the help.

Just ride the bike and let your warranty worry about the rest.

I have an EVO and I got the breakout box for diagnostics. I only need that one box, no additional cables are required. Basically, it is just a way to plug into your bike then you can take voltage measurements across specific areas to check for problems. Obviously, you have to have the service manual to work in conjunction with the box.

I see no reason why a new bike would be any different than mine.

You talking about something else besides the self diagnosistic code you pull up on the odometer?

(Press hold trip reset button turn ignition to run until dis appears then release trip button and cycle through by pressing trip button) different than that?

Yes, he is. A breakout box is a tool used to refine/pinpoint the actual problem indicated by the diagnostic codes when more than one fault can cause a particular diagnostic code.
OP, I'm curious where you plan to purchase one. I've kinda looked around and from what I can tell, they're pretty scarce.

Al, In my 2015 EDM there is a section, (1.3) Diagnostic tools. If I’m reading it right there is a box and adapter for instrument module HD 42682. Ecm,BCM , Radio, and ABS 50390-1 and a cable for each one and overlay for BCM and ABS.

I have seen some on eBay made by Kent Moore but I don’t know if they are worth it. If your handy and want a project building one would be much cheaper. Many of the tests done with the Box are open circuit so just checking at the connector would work.

if you do buy one let us know what you get and the cost.

Bill

I found the box, overlays and cables on EBay. $600 for everything, NIB. Kent Moore.

the breakout box needed is one, different cables are instead required for ECM, BCM and so on.
HD do not make them available, aftermarket possibilities are present, example here: https://www.diag4bike.com/us/motorcy...l-diagnostics/

I found the p/n for my breakout box in the manual, then googled that number and found a used one from a guy who bought out a dealership to resell the parts. Got it for $175 or $225, I don't remember. Anyway, it's already paid for itself.
