Hello - New to the forum and new to Harleys, although my last bike was a Buell. Dealer dropped off my new to me 2007 Electra Glide and I took it for a ride last night despite the 39 degree temperature. Was paying attention to the gauges and the voltage seemed high. It was closer to 16 than 14. Is this normal? I was at about 2200rpm
Dont believe the gauge in the dash. Put a DVM on the battery and trust that. While riding mine looks like 15.2 or so but in the garage the DVM is 14.5 @ 2500 RPM

I agree with Jack, check with another guage. My '07 did the same thing. There's actually a set screw on the guage that lets you calibrate, on the side if I remember right, gotta pull guage out to adjust. Was a pain to do, not really necessary
The gauges always read high. I'm sure yours is fine.
If you are lazy like me, you can check voltage at the starter. You don't have to take the seat off. Put the positive lead on the large lug on the starter solenoid and then find a good ground anywhere on the frame. Just be careful not to touch the exhaust
When the VR went out on my 07 UC I got a check engine light and a corresponding overvoltage code. It was very intermittent at first and difficult to catch on a DVD. Since replacement the dash guage reads 14.2 - 14.4V.

Even better, use the pigtail that's installed for the trickle charger. Most Big Twins have them installed already so use that as a source. Same procedure: DVM into the pigtail pins with meter on DC Voltage, start the bike (battery shouldn't drop below 9.5 VDC) run the engine up to 2500 RPM and read the meter.
