Default Detachable tour pac ??

Have come to a point that I want to lighten up an 08 Ultra. Have read a good number of post about doing this.
Went to searching for the parts to do so and was kinda set back with the price of the kits.

Now there are all kinds of pricing on Ebay Amazon and what have ya. I have some limited knowledge as to these things.
That is what has prompted this question.

https://houseofharley.com/Harley-Dav...53303-07A.html

So I'm asking for some input as to what kits some of the masses here have used.

Thanks for your time WP

Just did it on mine. I used the 53303-07A kit and 53803-06 docking kit from HD. Got 52723-06A tall upright, 52924-98B backrest pad, and 53011-98 luggage rack on eBay that was all together as one unit for $120. Got all the connectors for the wiring from Dennis Kirk. Also used the Kuryakyn 8986 detachable tour pak relocator bar as the detachable rack doesn’t allow it to go back as far as I had it when it was rigid mounted.

Also so put the antenna down between fender permanently and used a rubber one from auto parts store and fabbed the connector from the kit to achieve it. Never used the CB anyway so I coiled the wire and zip tied it under the right side cover as there was quite a bit of room to do so.

A word about the 53303-07A kit, I ordered it from Surdyke at a $60+ savings only to find out it is on backorder until July 1 so I cancelled it and had my dealer get it from their sister store as the opportunity cost of having it prior to July was worth the $60+, so look to see who has it in stock before ordering.

The absolute best detachable rack for the TP is the early one, part # 53107-96. These are rock solid not like the later model, smaller copy junk sold on ebay. I bought one of the later model ebay jobs and it was constantly lose. You will have to search ebay etc for the early model rack as they are discontinued from HD (no idea why). Make sure to get the HD oem rack if you find one. They attach to the front most docking point (same as detachable back rest) and the rear most on the ears. You can determine where to mount the TP on the rack to adjust for your riders size.

This rack fits bikes up 1996 to 2008.

I did mine about 4 yrs ago. Bought the parts from HD. I really don’t remember how much the parts cost but I’m thinking it may have been close to $500 and I did the work myself.

Do appreciate the info. Gonna do a little searching and see what I can find.

It appears that the HD mounts are solid and just maybe worth the coin.

I'll keep an eye in the classified, have bought a fair number things there.

Thanks again WP
