Default Preferred replacement shock

Im looking for the preferred shock that will provide a lower look/stance but with better performance than the stock shock I have now on my 2012 Road King. Swap Meet season is upon us so I figured that could be a good opportunity to pick a set up but I need to know what I am looking for first.

Any suggestions or recommendations from those who have done this?

Thanks,
Forrest

Probably won't find GOOD shocks at a swap meet. I prefer Ohlin and Legend. Your also going to here from the ProAction lovers. I doubt any of these will be found at a swap meet, because they will either be on bikes or sold a premium prices.

Exactly what TSheff said. You might be able to find a good quality shock from a member here or other good forum that has taken off something to try something else but you need to know what you want. Actual swap meet, doubtful. I run Ohlin Black Line. Like them. Would love to ride something with a Pro Action just to see. Had a set of Works Steel Trackers, just did not work for me. Friend bought them from me and loves them but he has about 100 pounds on me.

“Good” is a relative term. What might work for me may not for you. Also keep in mind when you go to a shorter shock, by default you lose some of the travel which will change the ride. If you stick to the stock length and add lowering blocks you can have both worlds. There is a shock out there that is 13” but has the stance of a 12”. I believe it is Ohlins. Do a search on shocks in this forum. You’ll have a days worth of info to read.

Legend shocks are 13" and when you sit on it it sags to 12". Not sure about Ohlins, but I suspect the same.

If your looking at swap meet stuff, like me, your invariably cheap.
Bitubo makes a 301mm shock that's very well priced. Less than 12 inches that will help lower the bike with a true top shelf ride. You can spend more on Ohlins and get the very best, but Bitubo makes a vet good shock for lots less. And they set them up for your individual bike.

Progressive 944 12 inch, but has the travel of a 13. I am sure there are better shocks, but for me and my wife they are fine.
My wife really noticed a big difference over the air shock.

Maybe "better performance" was the wrong term. I would setting for "like performance" but just a lower stance because the type of riding I do does not require a $600 plus set of shocks, I would never notice the difference or even care that much if I did. I have been digging around because I swear I read a post one time where someone mentioned that the new shocks used on the RG's and SG's provided stock travel but were lower. Or that there were a HD stock shock labeled "LOW" and these provided a lower stance but nothing too dramatic.

These are in the classified and may fit the bill for what you are looking for. They are better than the stock HD air shocks.
