Default K&N filter backplate

Looking at K&N it seems that you can just change the filter or use their kit with the replacement back plate.

Question: is the back plate really worth the money for a stage one upgrade?

If you plan on changing the mufflers then yes

I know it claims to increase the air flow, but what would I gain? 1HP or are there other factors?

I am looking at going with B&E Superflow Mufflers, a Fulsac true dual, and a PCIII.

My concern is heat and drivability, not pure performance. I also don't want to trade too muchfuel economy for performance.

I ride 80 miles a day to work and back, 60 on the Interstate and the rest in town. Usual in town speed about 40.

I also don't have a lot of money so I entend to do the mufflers and fulsac first and the K&N and PCIII later.

I put the K&N assy. on my FLHTC, but I went with the #3910 model which uses the 2 1/4" filter instead of the 1 5/8" used in the #3909. The air cleaner cover hangs out quite a bit farther than stock and gets in the way of my leg when going for the rear brake pedal. I'm going to replace the element with the narrower version and buy backa little leg room.
