That is exactly the problem I was having...the fairing stock 4" shield did absolutly nothing to prevent the wind from hitting me square in the face, I replaced it with a Freedom 8 inch recurve which does a good job of fliping the wind up and over my head also.
Vision in the rain sucks no matter what kind of windshield you have. I look over my shield, so any build up on the shield doesn't bother me. However, what I really need is a tiny motorized windshield wiper for my helmet face Shield. Figure how to do that and you can become a millionaire in a hurry. Just saying!
For me it's a trade-off. I don't like having a windscreen in front of me so I installed a shorter, smoked screen. Not one of those 4" jobs but decidedly shorter than stock.
I ride with a modular helmet with the chin guard down and visor up at freeway speeds. The buffeting is minor but it is there. If I get tired of it, I can reduce it to a noticable degree by dropping the visor.
I am 6'5" and looked well over my original 20" Road King windshield. That plus the large sun visor on my helmet created a ton of turbulence to the point that my vision was blurry at higher speeds. I am convinced that this led to a detached retina. My significant near sightedness also put me at a higher risk.
I now have a 22" windshield and a slim / no visor helmet and have much less turbulence.
Glad you don't have the problem, your shorter stature may also help.
Great Post !!! I have been chasing a fix for this issue for years. I have the fork deflectors, the deflector between the forks, a recurve windshield, the deflector under the faring and nothin works. The re curve shield takes care of the wind coming over the top of the shield but like you said the wind that comes from under the fairing and gas tank is my issue. I feel the air with my hand and trace it to the wind between the the fairing bottom and gas tank. This issue keeps me from riding with no helmet , durag or hat. So if your saying that this deflector from dkcustoms cure this issue I may just give it a try.
Thanks for the tip and Ride Safe !!

Mmmhmm, similar experiences myself. I'm only 5'5", but I'm built like a dwarf, longish trunk, short limbs. The stock 20 wasn't good, cutting it down to ~18 was horrible. With the 22, I'm fine.
