Ultimate Car Play Thread
I have a 2020 Harley Street Glide special on order in the UK, hopefully get it in the last week of May.
I want to use all the functions on my gts including talking to my passenger and playing stereo music, preferably via a packtalk bold that Ive not yet purchased.
what do I need to do, and do I need to get a whim which Ill install myself if I need one.
just asking as Im completely lost with everything Ive read up to now. Some one says you can and someone else says you cant.. oh and Ive got an iPhone 11 !!
please can you help me ? 😬
you sound like you know what youre talking about .
Thanks in advance

Congratulations on the new ride! That's one hell of a bike. Also, you are making the best choice on going with the PackTalk Bold instead of a Sena headset.
To quickly answer your question, do the following before the bike leaves the showroom floor.
- Do not buy the WHIM.
- Buy the PackTalk in time to have it to take it with you to the dealership when you pick up your bike.
- When you get the PackTalk, pair it to your iPhone and mount it to your helmet before going to the dealership.
- Download the latest firmware to the PackTalk Bold devices before going to the dealership
- Take a USB to Lightning cable, your PackTalk Bold, your iPhone, and your helmet with you to the dealership
- Have the Service Department plugin your bike to Digital Technician and have them disable, by unchecking, the option for the Apple CarPlay microphone - this should literally take less than 5 minutes.
- Ask the Service Department to make sure the BoomBox GTS is updated with the latest version of the System Software, and Dealer Database.
This order of events is critically important to get everything to work properly and should always be followed when using your PackTalk Bold
- Plugin your iPhone to your motorcycle
- Power on your motorcycle and wait a few seconds (You should see the option to start Apple CarPlay appear on the screen)
- Power on your PackTalk Bold

That all said is my understanding of the following correct?
If I install the WHIM, have the dealer "flash" the BoomBox for the WHIM, purchase a pair of Cardo PackTalk Bold headsets in lieu of Sena Harley-branded headsets everything I've noted above will work correctly. The ONLY negative is that the music coming through the BoomBox into our Cardo headsets will be mono rather than stereo. Yes/No? Am I missing anything or have i misunderstood something?
A special thanks to DWKen and RiderX for everything you have tried and documented.

My requirements are the same as you described.
I have the same question about stereo sound with the Packtalk through the WHIM since previous posts indicate that only HD branded headsets provide stereo sound.
It would be nice to use Apple CarPlay, but I want stereo sound to my Packtalk speakers.

I have a Boom Connection kit that has the rear headset jumpered on so that CarPlay always activates. I have that connected to a Freewire. From there, I have been able to have a Sena 30K connected and everything works perfectly. But I wanted to go with the Cardo Packtalk Bold. So I have swapped out my headset for the PackTalk Bold and any way I connect the Cardo up to different devices, I do not seem to be able to get microphone input directly to the bike through the Freewire. Has anyone been able to get the Cardo to talk to the Freewire as a microphone? I want to be able to talk directly to the bike in order to use the CB. Looks like I can talk directly to my phone without the Freewire connected but with the Freewire and Phone or just the Freewire in BT1, BT2, or GPS mode, I cannot get the mic to work.
This all works fine with a Sena headset, but I want DMC and the rest of the bike stuff both to work.

From what I have seen, the two-way communications is actually happening either Cardo to Cardo or Cardo to Phone. I'm not sure that I see any place where there is actually 2-way communications with the Freewire and a Cardo yet. And this is only because I need to use the CB as well.
Many thanks for your detailed description of how to use PackTalk Bold with GTS, WHIM, CAR PLAY.
I followed all your instructions and I guess I need a flash .... the only way I can get CarPlay to appear and work is to have it paired to the Boom/Vin.
If I follow your instructions when the iphone is plugged into the lightening USB car play does not show up. When I click on Car Play it says NO PHONE PRESENT, WANT TO ADD ONE?
WITHOUT CARPLAY I DO NOT get any audio into the PackTalk either. So I guess it's one more trip to my mechanic who has access to a diagnostic tool that can change the "mike required"?? setting.
Any other thoughts, TIA.
