Default go adjustable

I have both, but only use the adjustable one, it's much better. On a longer ride it's nice to make minor changes just to change position a bit. I will often adjust the backrest when I take of my jacket. Highly recommended!

My concern is getting on and off the bike.
My buddy had one years ago and said it was a waste of money. I would like to hear you what you guys have to say.
Thanks Tim
Finally something I can help with.' Buy the Mustang BACKREST. It is adjustable and it is very comfortable. The Harley backrest sux!! I've had one so I know. I can't believe they even make it it's so bad. I think have an adjustable one too...I have not used it because there was no need to buy one. The Mustang was far superior.

Don't waste your money on Harley.

Bought my 2015 Ultra Limited used and it has the Harley adjustable one on it. I like it allot. I rode a 2001 road glide previously with no back rest and I have to say that I am much more comfortable after a long day in the saddle. It does push me forward a bit. and I am only 5'8" and swinging my leg over sucks I might try the stand on left side floorboard method. Sometime I stand on right side and slip my leg thru and get on the bike that way. Never tried a non adjustable.

I like my adjustable backrest, allows me to change position on long trips. I take it off when I'm solo and run a Mustang wide solo with it's own backrest, like it as well.

I think the only person who can decide it it's worth it is YOU. I have had BOTH. I had a herniated disc back in 2001 moving some stuff around in the motorpool which led to surgery. I tried the fixed backrest, it got mailed back home after two days on a long trip. I tried the adjustable, same thing happened and both are sold. Best thing I did was daily core exercises to strengthen my inner core muscles. Today, I ride with the Lepera Mustang seat which supports my lower back just perfectly "for me". Have you asked your local dealer if they have one you can try?? Or maybe a used bike in their inventory with one already installed?? Good luck in your quest, it's a tough one.

I also have the Mustang seat with Mustang backrest. It can be adjusted by moving the mounting bracket forward or back in the 3 mounting hole options, and then the pad itself can be adjusted up and down or front to back. I had the HD adjustable and didnt care for it. it is a very thick pad and moved me forward to the point I was setting in the family jewels.

AND it slides straight up out of the mount if you want to remove temporarily or whatever. Last post I promise.

Yep!

On long trips I also find myself changing the position of the backrest. Yes, it is pricey, buy once, cry once.
I'd like to add, that the adjustable backrest does require a bit of maintenance. I've had the Suspa Varilock pneumatic shock lockup a few times on me. Just the other day I sprayed down the piston with some WD-40. I also sprayed the WD-40 on the various fasteners that move/rotate on the mounting base. That seems to fix the issue. On my bike it seems like the components on the mounting base get covered in dust, dirt, etc.
