Default Rear wheel alignment

I am getting ready to pull the rear wheel and am wondering if there are any "tricks" to aligning it when I put it back on. Mine does not have the alignment holes (that I can see). 94 EGlide Classic.

This will tell you how to get the alignment on your bike.I submitted this for the Softail, but the principal is the same for the EG. On the EG you need to remove the little chrome covers for each side ofthe swing arm bolt and measure from the center of that bolt to the center of the axle.

Hope this helps.

I made a tool out of a coat hanger ( I think it's shown in the manual ). You just make a couple of bends to reach around the swingarmand put a rubber grommet on it to slide to the center of the axle and the other end goes in the center of the swingarm bolt.

Which appears to be the same thing shown in the previous post. That "tool" is what's shown in the HD service manual.

I made my tool out of a brass welding rod as it is a little less flexable and more accurate than a coat hanger.

if you don't disturb the adjusters it will go back together aligned correctly. rotate the tire back and forth a bit before tightening the axle nut and it will all falback to where it was originally.

Does the coat hanger method need to be used on '06 models with the cams on the axle ends?

No. If you have the axle that has the cam system the wheel will always be in alignment.

Assuming that it was properly aligned to start with. I feel that any time a wheel is removed one should verify the alignment and the belt tension whether or not the adjusters are disturbed. Doesn't take that long, and the peace of mind is worth the extra effort.

if your axle has the cam system, you can verify the alignment, but there is no way to change it if its off. if you turn the cam on the right, the cam on the left turns an equal amount.
