Saturday, 29 June I ran 1073 miles to complete my Saddle Sore 1000. I ride a 2016 FLHTK, Stage I. I ran at about 75 mph average and completed it in 17.5 hours The bike was flawless. I haven't submitted the paperwork to the Iron Butt Association, yet. I needed to rest.
I live near Quantico, VA. I left at 0400 EDT. I ran I 95 South, 295 around Richmond, back to 95, and then West on US 64 toward Raleigh, NC. Then I 440 and I 40 to I 81 in Tennessee. Then, I 81 North to Winchester, VA. Then East on VA 7 to Leesburg, VA, and VA 267 to I 495. Then South gain on I 95. I ran about 180 miles between fill ups; about three hours in the saddle between stops.
I was just speaking to a good friend who completed his SS1000 a week or so ago with a few buddies. Peaked my interest - looking forward to getting some action myself!
seriously though, good job. 1000 miles doesn't sound like that far, but on the bike can be a real bitch. btdt. now, i'll break it up over 2 days and enjoy the ride.
I've got an 1100 mile trip planned for next week. I looked at the saddle sore rules, but not sure I want to do it all in one day. Eight or nine hours is about all I can do on the bike these days. Being an old fart has its limitations.
