Yep, the extra stress on the disc directly above the fusion is precisely why I won't have the fusion surgery done. I've got enough torn up / missing discs. Thanks anyways.

I really wish the Laminectomy would have worked in my case. I did the full-on PT and core-strengthening stuff as well as lost 175 pounds, all to no avail as far as my back is concerned. Granted, with the exception of my back and legs, I feel about 1000 times better and will definitely take that and just deal with the other.

Ride On!

Might want to take out an Indian for a test ride too. I love the look of the Harley over the Indian, but the ride quality on the Indian far surpasses the Harley. With spinal work like yours, that might be pretty durn important.

Rent a Harley for a week if no problems riding, buy the new Bike and enjoy the rest of your riding days.

I have had back surgery as well. Not quite as bad as yours, but after surgery I was back on the bike in just a few weeks. Prior to surgery, pain in my right leg was so bad it had me on crutches and the leg was very weak,, After surgery, I did exercises to strengthen the leg. However, I'm small of stature and, at age 77, not as strong as I once was, so lifting the bike off the stand is a problem. I'm carefull with my back and have actually strained my left arm and shoulder trying to lift the bike off the stand. i don't do that any more. With practice, I have develoed what I call the "bump the bike off the stand" method. Turn HB to slightly right of center and use legs and hips to "bump" the bike upright. Takes very little effort and I don't rely on using any brute strenght to lift the bike.

And, if the unfortunate happens and the bike is going to lay over in a slow manuver or stop, DO NOT TRY TO HOLD IT UP. Help it down gently, then using proper tecniques, pick it up using you legs, not your back.

After my 6 month checkup doc said everything looked great. The disc above is in excellent condition, but I know that could change.
Had a rough past year. Prostate cancer surgery (Friggin WTC 9/11) and back surgery within 8 months of each other. Need something to put a smile on my face.

I'm on the opposite side, I've got the lower back problems as well, stenosis and herneated disk. Some days all I can ride is the lazy boy, ha ! Seeing surgeon this month. I'm on the fence, but been thinking of selling my scooter due to the back issues. At 61 years young the bike isn't getting any lighter.
For the op, hope it works out for ya and your able to get back into it.

Don't sell it till after you heal. You're gonna feel completely better after surgery. Just make sure you pick a good surgeon. I'm sorry I sold mine. Bike weight was never an issue for me at 6'3 and 255 even at 65.
