Default King tour pack without backrest?

Are there holes pre-drilled or can you run the king tour pack without the backrest?

Another thread? Okay, so watch this video starting at 5:53. He does not drill any holes. Buy some plugs for the holes. Problem solved!

What is the question? I agree touring section is better place. I ignored thread, cause I thought it was a guy asking do you think my bike would still be pretty if I didn't have a backrest on the trunk. To which I say, it is nice to lean stuff on, when you have stuff strapped to back seat.

I thought the OP asked a straightforward question. It's hard to tell in the video if the holes for the backrest were pre-drilled or not. If so, go to the hardware store and find some rubber plugs for them. Most likely in the automotive section. Also check out bumperplugs.com.

yes i was being impatient and started this thread here and i had already had one going in the general chat forum. from the vid and others who have replied i am pretty confident the tourpack has the backrest holes predrilled. i would oly use the TP for long hauls and i do not ride with a passenger so i was hoping to not have to buy a $250 backrest when all i need is the box itself.

Unless you just have to have a Harley (manufactured) one, there are many on e-bay and amazon that you can buy with no holes. I am also a solo rider and I recently got a solo tour pack mount(not Harley) that I am going to get a King pack (also not Harley) and mount it so it can also be a backrest. I am going to use the razor pack backrest on it. By the time I'm done, I will have less than 500 in the whole thing. Try doing that with Harley parts.

Let us know how that goes, because I was hoping to do the same thing, but then I've seen several other threads where folks say the pack does not sit far enough forward to use as a back rest without making an adapter bracket or something similar.

I think it depends on arm length, height, and such... It did not work for me so I made an adapter plate of sorts. Made them using 2 12" X 1/2" X 2-1/2" aluminum bar stock. Painted them black and they disappear. See pic below... With it I can slide my chopped another 2 or 2-1/2 inches forward. Also had the back rest re-worked and cut a curve in it, and added 2" of padding to the flap for lower back support.
Side benefit of the adapter plates/rails I made... I can open saddlebags w/o having to watch out for the latches as they pass under the tourpak and I was able to put the quick-connect locks on the rack (just modified one of the keys).
