The exhaust rear has these three square screws/rivets?

Has anyone removed these screws, which I assume is the baffle, to make the bike louder? Any tips, video's, etc... on the process?

Yes. You can easily drill them out and remove the baffles. But note that the SE mufflers for the M8 Free Flow exhaust have 2 sets of baffles. The outer ones are easily removed after you drill out those rivets. However, inside you will see much larger and longer inner baffles. The catalytic converters are at the front of these. They are not easily removable.

Removing the outer baffles does increase the loudness somewhat, and also deepens the sound. But you may have some minor loss of torque and you may need to retune unless you have wide band sensors and the Harley Autotune module.

On my pre-M8 Street Cannons removing those three screws just removes the end tip if I’m not mistaken. Maybe M8 style is different.

I have the slip on and have grown to love them. There are a few videos on YouTube about baffle removal, but to me they just sound raspy. Best way to get a little more out of your exhaust is to put a little bit more oomph into your motor. I know your looking for a cheaper solution per your posts, but a stage three would make your exhaust sound really nice.[/QUOTE

Agreed. Also over time I noticed that those who make their bike louder tend to prefer a quieter sound especially on long trips. Also, in my experience over time many sets of pipes get louder and deeper with usage. I have waited several thousand miles for my pipes to brake in and now they sound better than new. Granted, they are stock rushmore pipes which were designed for a louder sound when new in 2014.

okay, so this is an old thread, but i have some 'new' information. first to reply to grouser62, the end caps on that exhaust are held on with 3 screws on the side of the muffler body.

so, i found a set of the 'screamin eagle high flow mufflers' on the facebook swap group in really good condition with the 2 piece slash tips, and a set of the dominator series tips for $600. wasn't totally sure if i wanted to spend that much, but after a couple of months, he still had them, so i went for it. i like that it moves the catalyst from the headpipe collector to the mufflers up under the saddlebags and away from your feet. you still feel heat, after all there is a hot exhaust pipe running right by your foot, but there is a noticeable difference. sound wise, they are very quiet, maybe even quieter than stock. but, if you drill those 3 rivets out, you can remove a 'db reducer' and still leave the main baffle intact. the end result is a really nice tone with a slight increase in volume. it is not obnoxious at all, and does not interfere with the sound system. even better, if i am wearing a full face helmet with comms, it doesn't 'echo' the sound around in there.

i'm very happy with this setup.

not all the SE mufflers have the CAT in them, most don't actually, if you get the complete high flow exhaust system from H-D they come with the new pipe and the mufflers with the CATs in them, I m not sure you can even buy the SE mufflers with the cat in them separately, and they will not bolt on as they are different size inlets from the stock mufflers. and yes i have both of them. its pretty obvious if they have a cat or not you can look right in and see them, others wise they are a straight through design. bu that on the M8, who knows on the older bikes.

Hi guys, new member here. I have a question along this same thread and really need honest opinions. I have a 2020 Street Glide Special with a new 131 installed. New high flow SE header which is part of the 131 upgrade and SE Street Cannons. I just had the dealer remove the diffusers (baffles-?). Have I just made a huge and expensive mistake? Don’t want to sacrifice power and torque for the extra noise or potentially damage my new motor. Am I looking at buying new Street Cannons to un fug my baby? Thanks for any advice.

understood, but this thread started with the 'screamin eagle hi flow exhaust system', and my post was about the 'screamin eagle hi flow exhaust system'. not about slip ons. and no, you can't buy the headpipe, or the mufflers separately. they are a 'system'

ah, oh, well your post says, you found a set of SE mufflers. nothing about the entire system. I have the entire system, i took my regualr straight through SE mufflers, welded a new inlet on the left one and bolted them on, works and sounds great! and no CATS, I did keep the CAT mufflers just in case, but don't see ever needing them.

cause nothing that harley does is ever confusing, right? sorry i wasn't clear. just wondering, why go to all that trouble when you could have just bolted on your se muffler slip ons to a non cat headpipe? that's a very expensive route that you took.
