I have a 2014 ultra limited and picked up a set of used la choppers slip ons. The factory bolts don't seem to be the right threads. Does anyone happen to know what the bolt size is?
Bolts??? All you should be doing is loosening the clamps on each side that hold the mufflers to the pipes and swapping and re-tightening said clamps from my experience. Pretty easy job, should only take about 10 minutes, maybe.
Well, there are the 2 bolts on each side toward the back. If the OP is saying his OEM bolts don't thread into the threaded holes, just take one of your new pipes to ACE hardware and match up the threads. I guess the guy you bought the pipes from didn't give you the bolts?
If you mean the bolts on the rear hangers, they're 5/16-20. Bu that doesn't prove what your mufflers have for nuts. Why not just buy 4 new nuts and bolts to match?
Also, for 2 or 3 bucks you could buy a thread gauge. Pretty handy to have in your tool box if you're not familiar with bolt sizes and threads.
I've used the same muffler clamps many times over on my bikes over the years, & nary a problemo.
'Course I've used the same condom on 2 different chicks back in the day...and YES; I washed it out.
I posted the question because I wanted to make sure what the thread of the bolts are that hold the mufflers on the brackets under the saddle bags. I tried the bolts that the guy I got the mufflers from gave me but I only used my fingers to try and screw them in. They didn't even go in more than 1 thread. This evening I tried them again with a ratchet and turns out they are the correct bolts after all. Maybe there's a reason why I rode the short bus in school 😂😎

Sounds like you got this sorted out! I would normally assume the threads would be the same as the stock pipes, but you know how that goes sometimes.

Yeah, you never know. I tried them by hand and they didn't want to go in. So I thought I'd ask before putting a ratchet on it and possibly messing something up. I've done that a few times 😕

Just a big FWIW....
A couple years ago, I bought a thread chaser kit... kind of like taps & dies, but they don't cut, just clean-out the threads..... it is now the most used tool in my shop...
Chasing all used bolts/nuts before reassembly not only prevents you from forcing the wrong bolt in the wrong thread, it also cleans off all locktite or corrosion which allows for proper torque on bolts that need to be torqued...
I rarely disassemble, and then reassemble, anything without chasing the threads on the nuts & bolts.... Once chased, they will go together with your fingers.....
