14.7 is supposed to be the ideal burn...I think according to EPA....13 on the dot sounds alittle rich but maybe that's what it needs. There is alot of info here about AFR.

Interesting thread:

Caught my eye cause I just upgraded to a 95", TW26G gear cams, and Big Boyz head porting. Have like 500 miles on the build and getting 10% better (yes better) gas mileage. With my Stage 1 and the Vance&Hines ovals, was getting 39-40mpg, first tank right after the build was 41mpg, and second tank was 45mpg. Not complaing, just hoping not to lean. Working on getting to a tuner. But, plugs look fine.

I have a similar issue and am taking the bike to an independant shop for a dyno tune.

I expect to get at least 40 mpg and better on the highway!!

Is the SE Race Tuner adjustable by throttle and RPM ? I have a PCIII and was getting 36-39 mpg. I adjusted the numbers in the cruising range and now get an average of 46 mpg for daily riding and 49 mpg for highway riding.

In addition to providing combustion, fuel also serves to cool the combustion chamber. 14.7 may be good for the EPA, and close to the theoretical optimum for combustion, but it creates a lot of heat in our air-cooled engines and may damage the engine.

The SERT canned maps in the last couple of years show a/f in many cells (rpm/load ranges) of 14.6 and these are shown in red, which the SERT manualexplains not to make them any leaner.

13.0 is probably good for wide open throttle mid- to high rpms, but it is way to rich for cruising.

The A/F ratio on the Dyno sheet would have been during the dyno run. 12.5-13.0 would be good. 14.0-14.7 is what you want during cruise but would destroy the engine under full throttle. Since a little extra fuel is always a good thing for a aircooled engine, many tunners will tune to the rich side to protect the engine.

My 01 Ultra with 95" kit and Andrews 26R cams gets close to 40mpg in town but that drops to about 35 mpg on the highway at 75mph. I really need a 6 speed
