Forgive my ignorance but I have never had a tourpack so I have a question. My wife and I have a tradition of taking a trip each July where as the number of years equals the number of miles we ride to a new destination. Although we are coming up on 5 years and thus 500 miles it isn't so much of an issue at this point but eventually we will get to the point where the saddlebags just wont provide enough storage for the trip.
I have been considering purchasing a color matched saddlebag for my 2019 Billiard Blue Road Glide but my wife rides her own bike and we both ride with solo seats. As such I don't need a backrest installed on the tourpack. Every tourpack I have seen seems to have a backrest on it. Is it simply a matter of just not mounting the backrest to the tourpack or do you have to buy a specific kind that doesn't come with holes drilled for one?

Thanks!
We've covered this in another thread. It was determined that the holes are already pre-drilled for the passenger backrest, but not for the luggage rack.
Theres also an option to have the tp mounted in a solo position. It could prove to be a good backrest for you. If my wife isnt on, the tp isnt on otherwise id give it a try myself.
my wife rides her own bike, so having the tour pack mounted 2 up is not a concern for us. been using it in the solo position since 2007. with the small backrest pad, it makes a very comfortable backrest for the rider.

When I bought a lid to do a rack delete on my 13 Limited, it came thru with the rack holes drilled and the passenger rest holes too.

That's odd. Not everyone installs luggage racks, but I'm pretty sure 90+ percent of people install passenger backrests. Was yours factory because I watched a video recently when they took it out of the box. They taped off the luggage rack before they drilled the holes. The backrest holes were already drilled.
After a couple years of looking for a good used back pad and having no luck I broke down and ordered a new one. In the box there was a paper template for drilling out the mounting holes, so there must be some out there that didn't come pre drilled.

When I ordered a TP special order/ color matched from HD, I believe you could order it drilled or not drilled for the luggage rack. I did order the chopped box with its narrow backrest. Possibly that accounts for the difference from a limited model box. The covers from HD for Rushmore models are all the same. Just drilled differently for the backrest type to be used.
Just sayin.
