there is a mini-discussion on the Indian megathread on this topic. I think those of us with Indian Chieftains and Roadmasters find the adjustable windscreen to be one of the nicer features we wish HD would adopt. Works flawlessly and with a flared windscreen is just about perfect
Yep, the adjustable windscreen may be the second best invention behind the internal combustion engine. Miss mine on my BMW R1200RT.
OP,
A windshield alone will not eliminate buffeting on a EG or SG. You need some fork fangs to kill the main source of buffeting coming from lower part of the bike. Coupled with a decent recurve windshield from someone like LRS, you will be in good shape. With the fork fangs installed, your windshield doesn't need to be huge. With a good recurve shield, you should be able to look over the top of the shield buffet free. Check out these sites: https://jescustomaccents.com/93-2013...3plqscsfapp001
Also, check out the fork fangs on my 2019 SGS. It is coupled with a 8" recurve in this picture, which turned out to be overkill. I have since put on a 6" recurve, and have smooth air.
My RT windshield was awesome, you could dial it in perfectly.
Funny story: I pulled side-by-side with a motor cop. He was on a harley, me on my RT. He commented "little chilly to be riding, no?" I said, "nah, I just engage my 'heater'" and proceeded to raise my windscreen. We both laughed and he took off.
Most buffeting comes from below. Im not sure about your specific application but look around for devices that block the wind below the tank. Ie, lowers. In my case I use Baker Air Wings.
Helmet design may also be a part of the buffeting issue as is windshield height. Air flow from lower down below the faring and coming up at you can be a problem. My goldwing has a vent in the windshield and when open it tends to reduce buffeting. Note that the Rushmore and newer have a vent at the top of the faring.
I wonder if should take my Harley windshield and add the goldwing vent if that is possible (curve radius might not work) or if there is a windshield with a vent for my 2010 EG.
No offense to those that run them, but if fork fangs are the only solution to buffeting, I'd prefer the buffeting.
I sincerely doubt that.
With my current setup, I can smoke a cigar at 80mph no problem, smooth as silk. With no fangs, I'd be getting beat up by turbulence (not wind blast), coming from the lower half of the bike. I'd rather have full wind blast in my face instead of buffeting/turbulence. There's a big difference. Wind blast is usually a constant...buffeting/turbulence is not. It beats your head and upper body around, and is extremely annoying. Constant buffeting really wears you down, and makes the riding experience not fun at all. The fangs are a cheap, light weight fix that really works, and kills that buffeting coming from below. My 2 cents...
